            He was born in Sukabumi, West Java, May 12, 1967. The original name Nio Cwan Chung. He is a citizen of Chinese descent. Since childhood, he was familiar with and adheres to the teachings of Confucianism, because his father was a pastor Confucianism. Besides knowing the teachings of Confucius, he is also familiar with the teachings of Islam through relationships in the home and school environment. I often pay attention to the ways of worship of the Muslims. Because they are too often without conscious attention he secretly likes to pray. The religious activities of others, he did even though he has not pledged themselves to become a Muslim.

            Her family life give the freedom to choose a religion. So that he himself chose to be a Protestant religion. After that he renamed Pilot Sagaran Antonio. Her move to the Protestant religion does not make my father mad. Her father would be very disappointed if my family and I chose Islam as their religion.

            Based on the three approaches he realized, islam really a religion that is easy to understand than other religions.             Dr. Muhammad Syafii Antonio, MEC (Nio Gwan Chung) is one of the ICON finance and Islamic banking in Indonesia. Through Batasa Tazkia Consulting, Antonio has helped the growth of more than 14 Islamic Banking Business Unit and 7 Takaful and trained more than 6000 financial practitioners. Antonio is currently entrusted as the Committee of Islamic Banking at Bank Indonesia, the Shariah Advisory Council of the Central Bank of Malaysia, as well as al-Mawarid Global Shariah Board DUBAI. Antonio also sits as an Advisor / Supervisory Board at Bank Syariah Mandiri, Takaful, Bank Mega Syariah, Schroders Investment Manager and PNM. Antonio has published 12 books on Islamic Banking, Leadership and Management. For their work Antonio was awarded "Syariah Award" by Bank Indonesia, MUI and Bank Muamalat (2003), Anticorruption and Good Governance Award from the Ministry of State Apparatus (2007), Arab Asia Finance Recognition Award from the Arab Asian Finance Forum (2008) and Australian Alumni Award from the Government of Australia (2009). Antonio was the recipient of Best Islamic Book (IBF Award, 2009), also promoted by the Department of Finance as IDB Prize nominee from Indonesia.
